Over the last decade and a half, I’ve worked with and for some of the most successful advertising agencies in the UK and Ireland, on some of their best known campaigns.
This work has included leading on new businesses proposals and pitches, and providing strategic planning and direction across a large portfolio of public, private and third sector clients.
No one person within an agency could or should lay claim to a new business win. Instead, success begins with methodical and painstaking research that uncovers the difference-making insights; it comes from the development of single-minded propositions, strategies and briefs that creative and media teams love to work on; and it all comes together with ideas and solutions that prove to a client (or prospective client) that we truly understand their needs, challenges, audiences and opportunities.
Oh, and the chemistry has to be right – people don’t work with strategies, they work with other people.
Some of my most memorable and treasured moments are working through the night on new business pitches. Anyone who has experienced it knows about the late night radio, the pizza – far too freakin' much pizza, then going home feeling like you've just flown to Auckland.
